fs8-1 by Jim Hooker

One of my first pieces.  This art deco style fire screen wasdesigned to fit a fireplace in a 1930\\\'s house.  Made from sycamore and brown oak, the curvature on the sycamore \\\"rays\\\" and the curvature at their extremities when combined with the flat faced brown oak rays is intended to create a visual rhythm and privde an intersting focal point for the room. The surface curvature of the sycamore rays was created entirely by hand using a long plane and a simple jig.  The ratio of curvature radius to ray width is the same at every point along each ray.
